Background
He founded Koei Drug in December 1990 and served as its Representative Director and President. In January 2007 he moved to Sumisho Drugstores and became its Representative Director and President in October that year. He joined Create SD in June 2011, becoming a Director two months later in August and Director and Executive Vice President in February 2012. He was an outsider brought in after running two drugstore companies.
Selection
In August 2012, a year and two months after joining, he became Representative Director and President. He had not risen through the company, and even his board appointment came two months after joining. The shares were held by individuals: in the FY ended May 2009 the top three shareholders were Yohei Yamamoto at 27.73%, Hisao Yamamoto at 25.94% and Itsuko Yamamoto at 9.69%. It was a change that left ownership with individual shareholders while handing management alone to someone from outside.
Initiatives
In the FY ended May 2012, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥169.8 billion and operating income ¥9.1 billion. They grew to ¥231.9 billion and ¥14.0 billion in the FY ended May 2016 and ¥319.6 billion and ¥17.8 billion in the FY ended May 2020, reaching ¥457.1 billion in sales and ¥22.6 billion in operating income in the FY ended May 2025. Over 13 periods, sales grew 2.7 times and operating income 2.5 times.
