Background
He joined JGC in April 1979. He became Director and CFO in July 2010, Managing Director in July 2011 and Director and Executive Vice President in June 2012. He became Representative Director and Chairman in June 2014 and Representative Director, Chairman and CEO in June 2017, and after about eight years as Chairman and CEO also took on the presidency in April 2025. He came up through finance, served long as Chairman, and became CEO without having been President.
Selection
In April 2025 he succeeded Tadashi Ishizuka as Representative Director, Chairman, President and CEO, adding the presidency while keeping the role of Chairman and CEO he had held since June 2017. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, the year before he took office, the company posted an operating loss of ¥11.5 billion and a net loss of ¥0.3 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥858.0 billion, a second straight year of operating losses after an operating loss of ¥19.0 billion and a net loss of ¥7.8 billion in FY ended March 2024. The appointment appears to have had the Chairman and CEO himself take over a loss-making business.
Initiatives
In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2026, consolidated net sales were ¥745.3 billion, operating profit ¥35.4 billion and net income ¥41.8 billion, a return to operating profit after two years of losses. Net sales fell by ¥112.7 billion from ¥858.0 billion the previous year. He has been in office for one year, and no decisions recorded as measures have yet appeared in the annual securities reports.
