"新設の医薬部門は、まず日本薬局方に載る注射薬を選んで塩酸プロカインほか5種類に着手したものの、山内忠重氏ら幹部は研究者として一流でも製造の経験に乏しく、思わしい製品ができなかった。続いて取り組んだ塩化カルシウム液やリンゲル液も量産段階で失敗が重なり、成分の単純な公定書医薬品では戦前から続く著名メーカー品に販売で劣った。そこで公定書外医薬品、すなわち新薬へ転じ、山内忠重氏が以前から続けていた胎盤製剤の研究を足がかりに、1948年6月、滋養強壮剤\"スメニン注コーワ\"を発売した。合成にあたったのは入社まもない加納宏一郎氏で、販売は直販をやめ、吉野金三郎氏の判断で東京の薬品問屋・株式会社中村瀧商店を通す方式に切り替えた。\n\n1948年11月、わが国初の抗ヒスタミン剤\"レスタミンコーワ注\"を発売した。東京大学の落合英二教授の指導に加え、同教授のもとで抗ヒスタミン研究をしていた太田道敏氏が同年に入社したことで開発は短期間で片づいたが、売れ行きを押し上げた要因は、薬効の説明よりも紙面の作り方にあった。臨床治験にあたった東京大学病院皮膚科の川村太郎助教授が新聞記者の取材に応じ、その記事が1948年11月29日付の東京新聞第2面に載る際、取材に立ち会っていた吉野金三郎氏が同じ紙面に広告を手配した。翌日、中村瀧商店の店頭にレスタミンを求める客が何百人と列をなし、同店は半日通常の業務ができなかった。1949年12月、風邪薬\"コルゲンコーワ\"を発売。勅使河原巍氏の発想により、風邪薬に抗ヒスタミン剤を配合した日本で最初の製品となった。\n\n医薬品は繊維の穴を埋める収益源になり、1952年3月までの第23期には、繊維業界の不況のなか他の製品の売上がその損失を補った。生産と研究の拠点も相次いで整え、1951年10月には興和紡績の矢田川工場に間借りしていた興和化学名古屋工場が、名古屋市北区金田町の旧・野々垣毛織の織布工場跡地へ新築移転を終えた。東京研究所は上野の東京薬学専門学校女子部の一室で約4年を過ごしたのち、1953年10月12日、杉並区下高井戸に敷地3,400坪・研究棟延580坪の施設を構えた。そして1954年7月、興服産業は資本金5,000万円の興和新薬を設立し、医薬品の販売を担わせた。出資は興服産業が99%、興和紡績が1%、社長には三輪隆康氏が就任した。",
