"終戦直後の日立精機は、工場の土地や山林を処分し、ねじ転造機や脱穀機、製釘機を作って当座の資金を賄った。国鉄の車両は戦時の輸送強化と補修の遅れで老朽化し、脱線をはじめとする事故が多発していた。連合軍と日本政府は国鉄の幹線を急いで立て直す方針を国策とし、車両関連の産業を財政で支援した。日立精機は1946年3月に米軍第八軍から車輪旋盤の生産許可を受け、戦後第1号機を京成電鉄に納めた。復興金融公庫から長期の運転資金1000万円を初めて借り入れられたのは、国鉄の発注を背景に銀行の信用を得たためである。車輪旋盤は国鉄のほか小田急や東急にも納入され、1948年8月には我孫子工場が商工省から工作機械生産の重要工場に指定された。\n\n1946年8月の戦時補償の打ち切りで軍需生産に伴う政府向けの債権が無価値となり、日立精機は特別経理会社の指定を受けた。斎藤浩介氏の後任の社長は、1948年9月に就任した技術者出身の佐野茂氏である。1949年のドッジ・ラインで国鉄関連の財政支出が止まり、月1台を見込んだ車輪旋盤の生産は年4台に減った。日立精機は1949年5月、従業員830人を600人とする人員整理を含む合理化案を示し、労働組合は反対した。争議は法廷に持ち込まれ、裁判での和解と希望退職の募集を経て、130日で収まった。争議の後も国鉄向けの受注減と不況が重なり、賃金の遅配と欠配が続いた。国鉄向けの車輪旋盤に依存した収益の構造が、財政の引き締めで経営の危機に直結したと考えられる。\n\n企業再建整備計画を終えた日立精機は、1950年末に特別経理会社の指定が解かれた。1949年には日野ヂーゼルから戦後初の専用機を受注し、1953年までに30〜40台を納めた。1950年の朝鮮動乱の特需で自動車各社が設備を高度化し、日産やいすゞからも専用機の注文が続いた。1950年の生産高は、前年の6475万円から半減した車両用工作機の3047万円に対し、専用工作機が2510万円である。1951年1月に持株整理委員会の許可を得て全株式の公開が決まり、3月末までに役員と従業員、縁故者の277人へ60万株を分譲した。自動車向けの専用機という新しい需要が、次の株式上場と新機種の開発を支える足場になったと推測される。",
