          "text": "安政5年（1858年）6月、日本石油の創立発起人で取締役を務めた山口権三郎氏の嫡男として生まれた。父の没後、1903年1月から1920年まで日本石油の取締役を務めている。新潟鐵工所はもともと1895年に日本石油が新潟へ設けた付属工場で、山口氏は工場を興した技術者ではなく、親会社の株主・役員の側からこの事業に関わってきた。"

          "text": "1910年3月5日、日本石油は新潟鐵工所の幹部を交えた役員会を開き、付属工場を分離独立させる方針で一致した。翌6日には500株以上の大株主が集まり、内藤久寛氏ら9名を発起人として、山口氏を創立委員長に選んでいる。分離の背景には、15年間の平均年利が1割3分余に達し、鉄道院の特命入札者にも加えられていたことがある。6月17日の創立総会で山口氏が取締役社長に就任し、工場を率いてきた笹村万蔵所長は専務取締役、日本石油社長の内藤氏は取締役に入った。"

          "text": "発足時の資本金は200万円で、株式は日本石油の株主に5株につき1株の応募優先権を認めて募集した。1913年5月には京橋区月島に東京分工場が落成し、発動機と工作機械の製造拠点を京浜へ置いている。1916年2月10日には東京株式取引所で株式の売買が始まり、当日の上場191社に加わった。1917年6月の定時株主総会で本社の東京移転を議決し、7月1日に麹町区有楽町へ移った。同年10月の披露宴では山口氏が社長として挨拶し、渋沢栄一氏らが祝辞を述べている。"
