"長谷川藤太郎商店は1910年、日本橋区本銀町3丁目13番地へ移転した。この地番は1932年9月の町名・地番の改正で日本橋区本町4丁目9番地に変わり、場所としては現在の本社の所在地にあたる。1932年10月発行の日本橋区の地図にも、この地に長谷川藤太郎商店の名が載っている。創業地の日本橋区は、現在の東京都中央区の一部。同じ時期、奉公先の松沢商店は1907年に香料部を設け、1909年には化粧品部と香料部を分けた。松沢商店の出身者からは、1915年に曽田政治氏、1923年に篠崎四郎氏が香料商として独立した。同業の独立が相次ぐなかで日本橋の一角を動かなかったのは、得意先との取引を保つためだったと思われる。\n\n明治の後半には、輸入された調香済みの香料が高価で日本人の好みにも合わず、原料を輸入して国内で調香する動きが現れた。調香は洋書を手本にするか手探りで試すほかなく、石鹸工場の片隅で行われる作業だった。長谷川藤太郎氏は松沢商店の丁稚として、石鹸の製造や配達、営業と並んで調香の仕事も担った。1906年には中村菊五郎氏が平野水にエッセンスを加え、サイダーとして売り出した。香料の用途は化粧品と石鹸から、清涼飲料のような口に入る品へ広がり始めた。長谷川正三氏は1995年、自社の歩みを振り返り、香料全般を手がける会社へ育つうえで軸になったのは調合香料だったと語った。奉公時代に身に付けた調香の技能と卸で得た得意先が、自ら香料を調合する素地になったのだろう。\n\n長谷川藤太郎商店は1924年、トレード・マークを特許局に登録した。マークは蒸留器のランビキを図案にし、長谷川藤太郎氏の姓と名の頭文字を組み込んだものである。図案を定めた正確な年は分かっておらず、創業から間もない時期とされる。ランビキは植物から精油を取り出す水蒸気蒸留の器具で、この方法は採油でもっとも広く用いられる。マークのランビキは日本の在来の形と異なり、社史は洋書から写した図案とみている。香料の区分は、天然香料と合成香料、それらを混ぜた調合香料の3つ。天然香料を採る蒸留器を印に選んだことには、仕入れ販売にとどまらず香料の製造を志す長谷川藤太郎氏の意図が込められていたと考えられる。",
