          "text": "1920年に東京帝国大学法学部を卒業し、同年住友総本店へ入った。住友化学工業へ移ったのは1942年で、本体での社歴は社長に就任するまで5年に満たない。移って2年後の1944年2月に取締役、1946年2月に常務取締役へ進んでいる。化学の技術畑ではなく法科出身で、住友本社から事業会社へ送られた経路をたどった。1894年に兵庫県で生まれた。"

          "text": "1947年4月、公職追放で小林晴十郎氏ら旧経営陣が退いた後を受けて社長に就任した。当時の社名は日新化学工業で、前年2月に住友本社の解散要綱に沿って「住友」を外していた。追放で役員層が一斉に空き、住友総本店から移って5年の常務取締役が社長へ繰り上がった。就任2年後の1949年4月15日には過度経済力集中排除法の指定が取り消され、会社は分割を免れた。",

          "text": "1949年5月に東京・大阪両証券取引所へ上場し、同年12月に旧住友アルミニウム製錬から全設備を譲り受けてアルミの一貫生産を整えた。1952年8月、サンフランシスコ講和条約の発効を受けて住友化学工業の社名へ戻す。1958年5月には愛媛工場でエチレンと低密度ポリエチレンの生産を開始した。英ICI社の高圧法を入れた日本最初の設備で、石油化学への参入は他社に先んじた。1962年11月にはイタリアのモンテカチーニ社からポリプロピレン技術を入れた。売上高は1952年12月期の148億円から1962年12月期の563億円へ伸びている。"
