          "text": "1968年版の日本企業要覧では熊澤貞夫氏が取締役社長として載り、1969年版では田中氏に替わっている。交代を挟む1968年3月、王子製紙・十條製紙・本州製紙の旧王子3社は合併覚書へ調印したが、同年9月に公正取引委員会の否認の見通しを受けて取り下げた。覚書は中島慶次会長と旧王子の長老・加藤藤太郎氏が3社の社長にも相談せずまとめたもので、田中氏は決める側にいなかった。分割前への一括復元が消えた直後に、苫小牧の現場を歩いた副社長がトップに就任した。"

          "text": "王子製紙は1970年9月に北日本製紙、1979年3月に日本パルプ工業と合併した。1968年には同業者やユーザーから反対意見が出て論議が沸騰したのに対し、1979年の日本パルプ工業との合併では反対が一つも出なかった。旧王子3社の大合同は、田中氏が不可能として退けた。売上高は1968年3月期の540億円から1981年3月期の3,385億円へ増えた。一括復元をあきらめ、審査を通る相手を一社ずつ選ぶ手法へ切り替えた13年だった。",
