"終戦時に操業できた工場は、出雲・佐賀の綿紡2工場と古宮の重布1工場だけである。大和紡績は1946年6月に商号を大和紡績へ戻し、同じ年に金沢・福井・松原の綿紡3工場の操業を再開した。制限会社と持株会社の指定で経営の自由は限られたものの、工場の再開と設備の修復を順に進めた。舞鶴工場は戦後の一時期に自転車製造へ転換しており、1947年にその機械を宍道工場へ移して綿紡織への復元に着手した。1948年12月には綿紡織6工場と重布1工場の計7工場が稼働し、資本金は同年10月に1億7,500万円となった。紡績本業の設備を先に戻し、戦後の衣料需要に応える体制づくりを優先したと推察される。\n\n大和紡績は1949年5月、東京と大阪の証券取引所に株式を上場した。同じ1949年には原綿の民間払下制が実施に移された。大和紡績はこれに合わせて舞鶴工場で超ハイドラフト式の精紡機を導入し、紡績業界で同機を最初に採用した。紡機と自転車をつくっていた宍道工場を1949年7月に分離して生まれたのが、第二会社の大和機械工業（現オーエム製作所）である。8月には資本金を4億8,000万円に増額し、1948年10月の1億7,500万円から約2.7倍に広げた。分離した大和機械工業は、1968年時点でもオーエム製作の名で関係会社に名を連ねた。原綿を各社が自ら調達する局面に入り、生産費の低さが競争の焦点になるとみて設備を先に更新したのだろう。\n\n朝鮮戦争を機に綿紡績設備の400万錘制限が撤廃され、大和紡績は各工場の整備と拡充を進めた。1950年には金沢・福井・舞鶴の3工場を拡張し、10月には化繊事業の準備として化学繊維研究所を大阪で開設した。1951年に綿紡織設備の復元がおおむね終わり、操業を止めていた益田工場をスフ製造に戻すことを決めた。同じ時期に繊維の全面統制が撤廃されて好況が訪れ、1951年下期の利益は23億円である。1951年に舞鶴第二工場が完成し、1952年には益田工場の第1期復元工事も完成して、事業は紡績専業から化繊との兼営に移った。綿紡の復元で得た利益を、統制の外れた化繊の設備に充当した判断と考えられる。", "益田工場のスフ設備が動き出すと、大和紡績は福井工場にスフ糸の紡績部門を新設し、超ハイドラフト式の紡機を充てた。関係会社の高瀬染工場の加工で発売したエバーグレーズ加工品「ミラクル」は、国内で最初の製品である。1953年8月には福井工場に自社初の梳毛設備を完成させ、並行して織機の自動化も推進した。1954年には輸出向け高級綿糸布の設備を拡充し、関係会社の大和川染工所で連続漂白機とサンフォライズ加工の設備を本格稼働させた。1955年4月期の販売高は84億9,000万円。ただし内訳は綿部門が78.6%を占め、化繊は18.3%、梳毛は1.0%にとどまった。綿の景気変動を複数の繊維で均す狙いは、この時点ではまだ売上構成に表れていなかったと読める。\n\n大和紡績は1958年、創立以来初めての新設工場として梳毛紡績の稲沢工場を完成させた。1960年8月には徳山曹達とポリプロピレンの国産技術で提携し、同じ年に大和ポリグラス工業と大洋化成を設立した。スフの日産能力は1954年の35.96トンから1961年の82トンへと2倍を超え、合繊紡機は2万5,480錘である。1962年にポリプロピレン繊維へ参入し、同年9月には三菱化成・興国人絹とポリエステルエーテルの開発会社を設けた。それでも1964年時点で綿部門が全体の約6割を占め、1968年時点のポリプロピレン設備は日産20トンだった。綿の比重が高いまま、合繊の技術を他社との提携で補う選択だったとみてよい。\n\n社長の瀬戸直一氏は副社長を経て1963年に就任した。1968年時点の大和紡績は10工場に精紡機（第一区分）47万1,462錘と軽布織機3,655台を持ち、年間総売上高は383億円である。紡績の技術革新として、業界に先がけて豊田自動織機と提携し、空気精紡機の実用化を金沢工場で進めた。狙いは、途上国の低賃金を背景にした安価な製品の流入と、国内の人手不足・人件費の上昇への対応だった。1960年代の不況期には海外での販路開拓と、子会社を通じたボウリング場の経営で収益を補い、1967年4月期から2分の増配に移った。人手に依存する精紡工程そのものを変えることが、低価格品との競争の焦点になると見たのではないか。",
