"1950年に勃発した朝鮮動乱を契機に、日本経済の復興は軌道に乗った。売上高は1951年3月期の47億円から1955年3月期には171億円へ、4年で3.6倍に拡大している。資本金も1951年8月に6,000万円、1952年8月に1億5,000万円、1954年7月に3億円と、工事量の増加に合わせて積み増した。1953年4月には有楽土地株式会社を東京都中央区に設立し、グループで最初の子会社としている。1950年代当初の建設工事量は年間約1兆円と推定され、清水・大成・鹿島・大林・竹中のいわゆる大手五社の年間完成工事高は200億円に達しようとしていた。\n\n1956年5月、電源開発調整審議会が黒部川第四発電所の開発主体を関西電力と決め、同年7月に各社と特命で工事契約が結ばれた。大成建設が請け負った第五工区は、地下150メートル・広さ200メートル平方・高さ50メートルの洞穴に発電所を格納する工事で、請負金は23億100万円、1956年6月着手・1960年10月完成の予定だった。全体の工費は当初の370億円を大きく超えて500億円余に達し、竣工式は1963年6月に行われている。機械化による工期短縮も進み、トンネル工事の掘進は1日2〜3メートルから10〜15メートルへ伸びた。売上高対利益率は従前の2%前後から、1956年9月期以降は4%以上へ改善している。1957年時点の主な手持工事には、三菱地所の第3丸ビル新築工事21億5,600万円、国立競技場第1回建築工事5億5,800万円、日本道路公団の笹子トンネル工事が並んでいる。\n\n1956年9月、資本金3億円を6億円へ倍額増資するにあたり、大成建設は株式を東京店頭市場へ公開した。ゼネラルコントラクターの株式が終始非公開だった業界で最初の公開であり、売出価格80円にはただちに160円の値がついている。公開には業界からも社内からも批判の声があったが、思いきって踏み切った。1957年3月期の完成工事高は152億8,697万円と前期の約5割増、当期純利益は7億3,320万円に達した。1957年9月9日には東京証券取引所へ上場し、上場株式数は1,200万株、社員は2,428名を数えた。1959年10月には大阪・名古屋両証券取引所へも上場している。同年には戦後初の海外建築工事として、インドネシアの首都ジャカルタでホテル・インドネシアの建設に着手した。",
